Russia has warned the Taliban against attacking its allies

Russia will respond to any attempt by the Taliban to attack its allies, the damage caused to them will be fraught with serious consequences for the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in Russia). The director of the second Asia Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Zamir Kabulov, warned the Afghan militants about this, RIA Novosti reports.

“We are closely monitoring the situation. But when the Taliban see that any attempt to damage the security of our allies in Central Asia will be fraught with great losses for them, if not the loss of everything, then they will do nothing and will behave well,” the agency quotes the diplomat as saying.

In the same interview, Kabulov said that the Taliban could play a role in the fight against the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) in Afghanistan. He also said that members of the “Taliban” vowed to ensure the safety of Russian diplomats on the territory of the Russian Consulate General in Mazar-I-Sharif, Afghanistan.

According to him, the head of the political office of the Taliban in Qatar, Mullah Abdel Ghani Baradar, promised that all the field commanders of the movement were given instructions so that “a speck of dust does not fall” on the territory of the Russian Consulate General.

The situation in Afghanistan worsened after the United States and NATO countries began the official withdrawal of troops from Afghan territories on May 1. On July 8, US President Joe Biden announced that the US army would finally leave Afghanistan on August 31.
